At its April Board meeting tomorrow, the leaders of the 11 institutions within the North Dakota University System will update the State Board of Higher Education on their plans to manage the 4.05 percent budget allotment that all state agencies are facing.
"In light of the state's current economic situation, the presidents of our colleges and universities have had to make very difficult decisions regarding budgets," says Kathleen Neset, SBHE Chair. "They were given broad guidelines because we recognize that each campus is unique and, as such, all presidents have the autonomy to make the decisions necessary, from the perspective of their campus community, to react prudently to the budget constraints.
"At tomorrow's Board meeting, presidents will give updates on each of their allotment plans. I want to thank them all for the work they have done and continue to do, and I look forward to hearing their reports.
"Many of the news stories have centered around the University of North Dakota cuts, and I would like to applaud the transparency of the decisions that are being made and thank President Schafer for his continued service. I recognize that what is being done at each campus is not easy, but it is necessary, and in the long-term best interest of our institutions, our system and our students. The Board supports the presidents, their decisions and the future of higher education in North Dakota. "
The Board meets tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. CT, via Skype, originating from Bismarck State College, NECE building, Room 335, 1200 Schafer Street, Bismarck, ND, 58501. The live video stream can be viewed at: http://www.ndus.edu/board/live-stream/.
