The University of North Dakota Presidential Search Committee hosted six presidential candidates on campus over the past several weeks before deciding today to recommend three candidates for final interviews with the State Board of Higher Education. The interviews will take place on Tuesday, March 15, on the UND campus. The SBHE is the hiring authority for university presidents, and is scheduled to make a decision that day.
The candidates met with students, faculty, staff and others during their interviews as well as participated in open forums.
"This has been a very inclusive and thorough process, and we have included all stakeholders of our esteemed university to ensure that we find the proper fit to lead the UND community and build our campus legacy into the future," UND Presidential Search Committee Co-Chair Hesham El-Rewini said.
"These visits have been essential in showcasing our beautiful campus and engaging our various constituents in the process. I would like to thank the search committee and the various constituent groups for their active engagement in the search process. I also want to thank Terry Meyer from the Chancellor's Office, Sandra Rios from the President's Office and Fred Wittmann, Peter Johnson, Jan Orvik and Tera Buckley from the Division of University & Public Affairs, and Chad Bushy from with the Center for Instructional and Learning Technologies for their great help with the candidate visits."
In considering who to move forward to the SBHE, experience of the candidates and feedback from stakeholders was crucial in making the final decision, the committee members expressed during their meeting today.
"I am encouraged by the extensive process and the experience that these professionals brought to the position," UND Presidential Search Committee Co-Chair Grant Shaft said. "As we progress through the next phase of this search, we are confident that the Board will find the right leader for this great institution. I am thankful to have been part of the process, and I also thank all of the committee members who were willing to volunteer their time and expertise during this search."
The finalists who will be interviewed by the SBHE include: • Dr. Steven Shirley, president of Minot State University, Minot, N.D. • Hon. Mark R. Kennedy, director of Graduate School of Political Management at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.; and former congressman (2001-07) • Dr. Nagi G.
