Dr. Kirsten Diederich, chair of the State Board of Higher Education, submitted her resignation to Governor Jack Dalrymple today. Diederich, a Fargo resident and retired assistant professor of biology, served four-and-a-half years on the Board.
"Dr. Diederich has done an excellent job in leading the Board through some challenging times, always keeping the focus on students," said Interim Chancellor Larry C. Skogen. "Her accomplishments are many in the time she has been on the board including overseeing the launch of a new mission, vision and strategic plan for the North Dakota University System."
During Diederich's time on the Board, she also instituted in-depth Board orientation and training, restructured an efficient committee system for Board business and oversaw a systematic review of Board policies.
"We will miss her leadership, but we respect her decision to step down at this time," said Skogen. "We wish her the best in her future endeavors."
Dr. Terry Hjelmstad, vice chair, will assume leadership of the Board.
