Section: 403.1.3 Inactive Programs

  1. Academic programs may be temporarily removed from the institutional offerings for a period not to exceed three years.

Institutions shall notify the Chancellor of its intention to place an educational program on inactive status. The notification shall include a plan that accommodates enrolled students. Rationale and supporting documentation utilized within the institutional governance structure for placing a program on inactive status shall be included in the notification to the Board office.

Factors to be considered when a program is evaluated for inactive status may include but are not limited to: funding for faculty, facilities for the program, level of student enrollment, employment demands, and relationship to the role and scope of the institution.

  2. Programs which have been placed on inactive status may be reactivated within the institutional governance structure when criteria used in the program's suspension improve or change to the extent that implementation of the program may again be feasible. Institutions shall notify the Chancellor when a program is reactivated.

  3. Not later than three years after the program is placed on inactive status, the institution must reinstate the program, present the program for termination, or notify the Chancellor of its intent to continue inactive status, which may continue for up to three additional years.
