In support of their efforts to provide arts programming in their community, the Dickinson State University Art Gallery applied for and was awarded a $8,372 Institutional Support grant by the North Dakota Council on the Arts. A total of $416,003 was awarded during this grant round.
The Institutional Support program is designed to benefit artists, arts organizations and the general public. The program provides general support for qualifying arts and cultural organizations that have proven they have strong management and leadership, quality artistic programming and services and are an important part of the arts infrastructure in their communities.
The grant will help to provide funds to the art department at DSU for projects and activities that will further expose students and the general public to the various types of creative art forms.
"We are extremely grateful to receive this grant," said Carol Eacret-Simmons, director of the DSU Art Gallery. "The importance of art and the study of the arts enhances creativity in all areas of study and it is important to keep it a part of our culture."
The North Dakota Council on the Arts is the state agency responsible for the support and development of the arts throughout North Dakota, and is funded by the state legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.
The application cycle for the next round of Institutional Support grants will begin in mid-October 2012. For more information, contact the Council on the Arts at 701-328-7592 or visit www.nd.gov/arts.
