NDSCS students earn top awards at SkillsUSA Nationals Posted on 7/11/2012
Two students from North Dakota State College of Science won the nation's highest awards at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLSC) on June 23-27, 2012.
Justin Paulson of Lancaster, Calif., and Duane O'Marro Jr. of Mapleton, N.D., earned first and third place, respectively, in the recent SkillsUSA National Competition held in Kansas City, Mo. Paulson, a Precision Maching Technology student, secured a gold medal in CNC Turning Technology. O'Marro, a Powersports Technology student, earned a bronze medal for his performance in the Motorcycle Service Technology category. The students were advised by NDSCS instructors Lincoln Thompson and Luke Kasowski.
Nearly 6,000 students competed for national recognition in the 48th annual SkillsUSA NLSC in 94 hands-on occupational and leadership contests, such as electronics, precision machining, public speaking and culinary arts. Contests were run with the help of industry, trade associations and labor organizations, and test competencies that are set by industry.
