Milavetz named interim vice president for research and economic development at UND

Barry Milavetz, associate vice president for research and development at the University of North Dakota, has been named interim vice president for research & development, effective July 1. He will succeed Phyllis Johnson, who will retire June 30.
In his new role, Milavetz will report to Thomas DiLorenzo, academic vice president and provost at UND. DiLorenzo also has announced that a nationwide search to fill the vice president position will commence during the 2014-2015 academic year and will be completed as quickly as possible.
Said DiLorenzo, "The Division of Research & Economic Development is vital to the expansion of research and innovation across disciplines, as well as throughout the campus, the state and region, and the private sector. We are pleased that Dr. Milavetz has assumed this role during this interim period."
Added Milavetz, "I look forward to working with the provost and the entire campus to continue strengthening the connection between the Division of Research & Economic Development and other UND departments."
Milavetz, a tenured professor, joined UND in 1986 as a faculty member in biochemistry and molecular biology. He has served as associate vice president for research & development since 2004, and also previously served as UND's interim vice president for research & economic development from November of 2008 through July of 2009.
He also serves a member of the UAS Compliance Committee.
